Email Inbox  Cleanup

Hard Drive Backup / Migration

"Hard drive work" includes the following (and is explained in greater detail below):

  • Backing up specific files

  • Backing up entire disk(s)

  • HDD migration (to a new PC, or to a replacement disk like an SSD)

File transfer speeds can take different amounts of time, especially if a hard disk is older and running slowly. That's why this is a "fixed-rate" service. You shouldn't have to pay for five hours' worth of service just because your disk transfer took five hours to execute. (Note that because of long transfer times, large disks may need to be collected from, and later returned to the customer).​
 

This service includes backing up just some files, entire disks, and also, replacing or upgrading disks (including moving data from an old 'spinning platter' hard drive to a new and faster solid state drive). If you have any questions, feel free to reach out on the Contact Page!​

Hard Drive Recovery

This service attempts to recover the contents of a hard drive which seems to be corrupted. While this cannot make the system usable again, it may recover some of your documents and downloads.

Billed as two hours of labor ($240) only if successful, and thirty minutes of labor if unsuccessful, this service is compatible with Windows and macOS disks. Due to the length of time this process is likely to take, the hard drive will need to be collected and returned on separate days.

Note: Sometimes files can be recovered entirely. Sometimes they only partially recovered (only some text from a document, or only some images from a longer video, for example). Sometimes only some files can be recovered, while others cannot. When it comes to corrupt data, we can make no guarantees of total success because the damage is done and some data is irretrievable. For that reason, in the event that the attempted disk recovery fails entirely, or near-entirely, CozyTech will only bill for 30 minutes of labor ($60) beyond the expected booking fee.

Note: CozyTech will not accept work on a drive the technician can immediately identify as not salvageable. This is to protect your money, to be transparent about what can and cannot be done with this kind of service.

We own a special document-feeding scanner that is gentle on photographs, and stops at the slightest hint of a jam, so there is no risk of them being bent or torn.

We further have the ability to digitize VHS and Mini-DV tapes. If the demand arises, we will investigate digitizing projector slides and other forms of tape as well!
